Here are some more details:
- Readers sign up in person at the Northfield library where they receive a Newbery passport and membership number.
- After
the member reads a book, they fill out a question sheet which asks some
general questions and gives them a chance to rate the book. You
can download a copy of the form from the link in the Resources section
below.
- The forms are returned to the library where our ace form-checker
reads each one. They're not graded, but she can tell if you
haven't really read it!
- After a few days (or maybe a little longer) the forms are then available for pickup at the library.
When
you finish reading 10 books, you get a spiffy bookmark. With each
10 books you finish, you get a bead for your bookmark. Plus, when
you finish reading the first book to win a Newbery award (The Story of
Mankind, 1922) you get a special bead.
- At the very end, when you've read all the Newbery winners, you name will be added to a plaque at the Northfield Library.
To sign up, ask at the libary.
